What can you win? There's a bunch of ways, involving gifts, contest and big bucks

When you sign up: Right off the bat, you are a winner of sorts because you each get a wristband at check-in and with that, entry into three drawings. That wristband gets you into two dinner parties, drawings for a lot of free tackle, a commemorative Gamakatsu dryback backpack, a Costa event L/S shirt, an official event hat, and when you check in you get all that and then you start down the line of sponsors under the tents, wire leaders from Hi-Seas, Costa t-shirts, official Gamakatsu flags, and more. Fun stuff is being added all the time.

CONTESTS LIKE THE Fishworks/Baja Cantina Best Dressed and Kingfisher Guess the Fish contests make giving out sponsors prizes more fun. this year we have a new one, the Gamakatsu Karaoke Contest. Staged at the Friday Fiesta.

The Overall Payout: The biggest fish over two days places first and that means you and your teammates are the champions for 2019. Then there is second or third place, and depending on how many teams are in the event, 85 percent of the overall money is given out to first place, 10 percent goes to second place and 5 percent to third. If the boat is chartered, the captain receives a check from WON, 10 percent of the team's winnings.

Optionals: There are six tuna optionals and one now separate $1,000 dorado and $1,000 wahoo optionals. The amount you pay is good for two days. Example, a $1,000 optional is $500 a day. We take 20 percent off the top. The payout is 80 percent, each day, in each optional, and you win by bringing in the biggest fish in each optional. Normally seven to eight teams win money. Six teams won money last year, but with the separate optionals for wahoo and dorado there will be at least two more check winners. The most teams to have won in a year was nine. We expect the payout to be above last year's record $840,600. It could top $1 million. We added a $20,000 Gray Fish Tag Research Optional for teams that are across the board. 85 percent payback, 5 percent goes to Gray to purchase electronic fish tags. That cost $5,000 each.

-- Kingfisher Guess The Winning Fish Weight Contest: The winner gets a trip for one person worth $2,400 to Kingfisher Lodge in Alaska. It is announced at the Friday Fiesta at Maria Corona Restaurant. If there is a tie on the guesses, its a coin flip, or a drawing if more than two who guess correctly. If no one picks the exact weight, it is the closest weight.

-- Fishworks/Baja Cantina Best Dressed/Logo Contest: The team wins $300 in free meals at BC in 2020 (Nov. 30 is the cutoff), and a $125 Fishworks Clothing gift certificate for every member of the team. THE FIRST-EVER DUAL $300,000-plus payouts in a Jackpot over 20 years came last year with two teams -- Hoorah with $324,800 and Cloud Nine with $392,800 - creating a big buzz after both teams swept the tuna optionals each day. Cloud Nine did it on day 1, Hoorah claimed them the second day. There were 22 teams that entered across the board. This year a $20,000 tuna optional was added for those teams and the $1,000 wahoo and dorado optionals were separated, so that means more money and winners, top to bottom.

At the start boat, when you show your number and the National Tuna Jackpot sticker is on the boat, you are in a drawing for a free rental car package from National.
