BUDDY TRAILER BOAT CRUISECaravan to Cabo Tuna Jackpot again planned Oct. 20 to Nov. 16 ![]() THE THREE boaters that made the trip. It all originated in Simi Valley. Last year was so much fun, we’re doing it again! We will caravan from San Diego down the Baja Peninsula approximately 800 miles, then cruise around the southern tip of Baja on the water for approximately 800 miles. This will be another unique trailer boat cruise, starting off at a San Ysidro meeting place and driving to El Rosario, then Santa Rosalia and on to Lopez Mateos where we will launch and secure our tow vehicles, trucks and trailers. After fishing and scouting the estuaries for 2 days, we will move on to the Thetis Bank and Santa Maria Cove for 3 more days, refueling at San Carlos. We will troll The Finger Bank, Golden Gate Bank and Jaime Bank as we cruise toward Cabo San Lucas, approximately 200 miles south. ![]() YENCE SUND, left, and John Chonette with a tiny roosterfish. Then, Nov. 3, we will check in with the Western Outdoor News Jackpot Tuna Tournament which always has big prizes and 3 nights of fun festivities. In 2004, our team, Baja Dawg, won a $20,000 prize in the drawing for an all-expense-paid trip to Costa Rica, and last year everyone in our flotilla won at least one great prize with some boats winning multiple prizes. Some of these prizes were a new limited edition Seeker Rod, fluorocarbon leader, rod holder, ice chest, Reactor watches, Costa sunglasses and more. ![]() THE 2110 STRIPER Castaway with Charlie Tripoli during the 800-mile cruise from Mag Bay to Cabo to Loreto. After the tournament, we move on to Cabo Puimo, then to Las Barriles and the Bay of Dreams. We will cruise the islands and then into La Paz for refueling and an overnight stay. Heading north, we will fish around the islands of San Jose, Santa Cruz and Catalina. We then head to Loreto for 2 days. After 2 days in Loreto, a leisure trip by van back to Lopez Mateos (65 miles away) where we retrieve our tow vehicles from Mag Bay Outfitters, returning the same day to the launching ramp in Loreto to load our boats for the trip home. On the trip back, we will be stopping at San Ignacio, Estero Beach RV Park, then out at Tecate. ![]() HAVING FUN IN the Bay of Dreams (previously called Muertos Bay) south of La Paz Bay were Mia Tripoli and the author's wife, Linda McGinnis of Simi Valley. Last year, this was a fun-filled and exciting adventure. Anyone interested in joining us this year, please contact Leader Joe McGinnis (805) 581-2504 (itzlinda@sbcglobal.net) for details, or Vag Headquarters at (800) 474-2252 to get on the list and obtain your vehicle insurance, charts, fishing licenses, FMTs, etc. There are a couple of open spots for the tuna tournament on a number of boats if anyone is only interested in the tournament. Everyone is Welcome!! ![]() DOLORES BEACH was the spot to relax for Linda McGinnnis. ![]() THE MAP is doted with the trail that the group made, trailering to Mag Bay, running the boats to Cabo for the Tuna Tourney, up the Sea of Cortez to Loreto (a total of 800 miles) before trailering home. |
